Tim:
Unlike the old licensing technology which Henter-Joyce and Freedom
Scientific used, which did allow a user to move a license key back to the
license floppy disk. You cannot move an ILM license key back to the original
web site location. So, when you license JAWS using the Internet Licensing
Management (ILM) system, it does count against the total number of licenses
which remain. So, if you license a version of JAWS on a particular computer
and, you then uninstall JAWS from that computer, the number of ILM licenses
is reduced by one from the initial count of three, which is why, when you
run out of available license keys, you have to call Freedom Scientific
Technical Support or your local dealer in the country where you live, to
have them authorize a new key for you or, reset the number of license keys
back to three.
The ILM system is very inefficient because, it is trapped by the locking
code of a computer. For example, I have added hard drives to my system with
no problem to the system changing the locking code, thus affecting JAWS.
However, when I added the last hard drive, I accidentally disconnected the
SATA signal cable from one of the DVD/CD units and, when I started the
computer and when Windows finished loading and displayed the Desktop, JAWS
came up with the message that I had to update my authorization or use, JAWS
in 40 minute mode. After I shut down the system and checked the connections
and found the disconnected cable and reconnected the cable, i restarted the
system, JAWS loaded correctly, with no update authorization ore 40 minute
mode message.
HTH

I also thought that if you expressly remove the JAWS registration from a
computer you are no longer using, it no longer counts against your three
licenses.

I've done as many as three--two at the office and one at home. It's not
common, but once or twice the job has required it. In fact, I may be
doing it starting today. I guess the only bad news is you can't reuse a
key the way you could back in the days of floppy drives, but FS is quite
decent about replacing keys, when necessary.

You are entitled to run JAWS on two machines so long as both are yours.

I'm getting a new computer and for a brief time will need to run Jaws on
both the new and old ones. Are there any legal or practical
considerations here?
thanks,
Cliff
