Yes, it would affect the functioning of iTunes. However, I phoned a friend, and 
he gave me the key commands to cause the current e-mail message to be displayed 
in your default Internet browser.

The key strokes are:
ALT plus the letter H, followed by the letter a, followed by the letter V

At this point, your e-mail with the link will load into Internet Explorer.

Then, tab to the link, Press the Applications Key, and arrow down to Save 
Target As.

That should work for you.
