It was rather a shame.  The messages were from this list, and I had no idea the 
darn thing was sending them to Junk for months on end; There were too many to 
catch up on.  I thought I'd been dropped, and couldn't figure out why.

Yeah, I had that a couple of times. What I did then was to go to the top of the 
message list, hold down the Shift key and press and hold the Down Arrow for a 
few seconds. This would select maybe fifty messages. Then I hit delete, and 
repeated the process.
