That makes real sense to me, as I stated in a priority situation.

Bye for now,

Carolyn

Thank you Tom! My thoughts exactly.

I don't see where the lack of a merge utility is such a show stopper. It
is not a question of not providing a merge utility but you simply can not
merge the old scripts with the new scripts because of the changes in even
low level function in order to work most efficiently under win 10. You
just can not merge. Now 17 to 18 will most likely be able to be merged
because the changes won't need to be so dramatic and the functions that
work under one will work under the other.
Is redoing your settings so tramatic?

>From this message, I get the impression that FS went into the development
of JAWS 17 quite ill-prepared! Clearly, the engineer was "asleep at the
wheel"
when upgrades to V: 17 were being considered. Did no-one at FS take
responsibility for making sure that all of the parts would "play nice"
with each other once the "package" was all put together?

P.S.: Can you tell that this upsets me? I've been looking forward to the
new JAWS upgrade for some time, and now ...

Hi,

I was told they are working on a replacement as there were many things
changed in v17 that made it not work.

I don't know how appropriate or beneficial this could be, but if someone
on the list would be willing to craft a petition regarding this issue, we
might be able to get enough signitures to make an impact.

Sometimes, I just scratch my head at these kinds of decisions.

I certainly will sign any such petition, if it is created.

I'm looking to upgrade to Jaws 17, possibly during the college teaching
semester break, but that won't be for about 8 weeks for me at this point,
and I sure would like to have the use of the merge utilities feature
again.
I know there have been issues with it at times, but the convenience and
ease of using it far outweighs any problems, in my opinion.

I'm going to write to FS Tech Support and ask for this deficiency to be
fixed. I hope others will do the same so they realize how important this
is.
Can you imagine a popular commercial application forcing users to start
all over again with the settings they've created over the course of
years? Note that "merge" was misspelled in the subject line, which I've
corrected.

I agree completely. Enough said.
