Hi Kathryn.

Not sure just precisely what the problem was - I know that it was hardware 
handshaking related and fixed at the braille lite end.  The com port had 
been used in conjunction with the B.L. for file transfers via Hyperterminal 
so didn't think it was a bios problem.  Still - one can only start with the 
easy options and work to the more difficult ones step by step.

Thanks for the suggestion: I am pleased to say that things are now working 
fine.
