Thanks @lianetm . I rebased onto current trunk so this now sits after the recent poll-timeout bounds. I checked this against those cases: the new guard is after the existing pollTimeout calculation and does not change it. It only runs when the current inflight AsyncPollEvent already has error().isPresent(). onMetadataError completes that event exceptionally, so this skips awaitWakeup() and lets checkInflightPoll surface the error on the next loop iteration, or on the next user poll() if the current timer is exhausted.
