After returning from military service I was excited to see that my
receiver had arrived.
I hadn't played much with the controller since Christmas because of the
often mentioned scrolling issues with long album and artist lists -
using the ir remote was so much easier to quickly find artists or
albums.
I was quite surprised to learn that my girlfriend had used the
controller almost exclusively while I was away. The controller had
locked up just before I got home so my first duty was to get it going
again.
I updated Squeezecenter and the controller firmware and setup the new
receiver. Setup was a breeze, even easier than setting up a new
squeezebox. No need to enter any wireless keys (if the controller is
already properly configured), connected to the wireless network without
problems and Squeezecenter was found almost instantly. I was listening
to music in no time. Connecting the receiver to my system took longer
than the setup!
With the latest controller firmware scrolling through a modest library
(900+ albums) is so much more enjoyable. The accelerated scrolling with
the letters displayed in the background is not only very useful but also
looks quite cool.
I can't really say much about the receiver's sound quality as I neither
have a high end system nor golden ears. I did a quick a/b test between
the receiver and the squeezebox and couldn't really hear any difference
between the two. At first I thought the receiver sounded a bit more open
but this was only due to a higher volume level.
All in all the Duet is a very intriguing package. It's great to see how
the software has gradually improved over the last couple of months and
how input from the community was picked up and incorporated into the
product.
Kudos to all who were (and still are) involved in the development.
And a big thank you to Slimdevices/Logitech for letting us participate
in this beta program. What a great way to reward the efforts and
commitment of the community!
