Now that I have a Receiver unit in hand, I wanted to post an update. I'm happy to say that the current software has resolved all the problems that I initially reported with the Controller and it is now much more reliable - enough that it has replaced my regular IR remotes for regular use. The kids still prefer the old remotes with 1-button access to their playlists, but I think that's a good thing given the ages of the kids and the cost of the Controller!
The Controller has been a big hit at parties and I've already been asked to help set up a demo of the Duo at a neighbor's house. Most people are able to find and play music right away - the only glitch that I've noticed is the tendency to zap the current playlist by pressing play instead of add. It's a short learning curve but gets people into trouble when queued songs are cut off midway. The receiver set up without problems and on my non-audiophile gear sounds very good. The only thing that concerns me a bit is that the power jack fits very loosely into the receiver. Just the smallest amount of tugging will disconnect the power.
