The code change that stopped squeezeslave working (IIRC Jive kept /dev/dsp open when no sound effects) must have been changed.
The version of squeezeslave I built is not optimised - in fact at the time the compiler was setup wrong and building for a less capable ARM processor. I must have been wrong about the socket - I mustn't have noticed the speaker when listening in the earphones.
