Yes, I often seem to miss my target when switching my thumb from the scroll wheel to the center button. I had been thinking that this was because I was scrolling to the "edge" of the element I was trying to select and then a jostle pushed the selection "over the edge".
I had been thinking that a fix along the lines of: "if we don't see a scroll event within xxx ms, then change our scroll position to the center of the currently selected item" would correct this behavior.
