30 seconds is about twice as long as I see when my controller wakes up
from sleep. My guess is that the delay comes from either a) your wifi
being slow to connect to or b) slow on receiving a dhcp address.

While your wish for a quicker startup is entirely understandable and
valid, consider that this device has much more intelligence built into
it than most--it needs to pull itself out of sleep mode, power up the
wifi, connect to the network and receive an IP address, tie itself to a
SqueezeCenter/SqueezeNetwork and a player, and receive all the menu and
status data from the server. Quite a bit more involved than, for
example, a cell phone powering up (which, if you factor in connecting
to a cell network, is often even slower).

On the screensaver kicking in before/immediately after the wake has
finished, that sounds like a bug. I opened bug 8906 against it
http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=8906

I might suggest as a workaround until the bug has been addressed:
change the screensaver delay to something a bit longer than the default
of 10 seconds. Settings->Screen->Screensavers->Delay

cheers,
#!/ben
