Notification is sufficient as long as Custom Clock screen saver is
active when it happens, I'm just thinking of the case when it isn't
active when the refresh happens and is activated later. Is there any
way to see if the last refresh has failed via a JSON/CLI command ?

Maybe notifications are good enough ?
