I'd forgotten about that.

But there are ways round that, I'm sure. e.g. could use a sub-container to
hold the other items.

I don't think this is cosmetic - ${X} means use X as a function/variable,
which is not the case, to my mind.

ACTUAL_DELAY would do. Could be a language resource, unless we can find a
string that makes sense in all languages ...

Agreed.
As far as I can see, the variable would only be used once anyway.
