Thanks guys. I'll probably end up using TrueTime by NuMega then (it's part
of the DevPartner Studio). It's way better than OptimizeIt, and cheaper
(with all the functionality I need) than JProbe.

I don't think that you are looking for Jmeter, rather for Java profiling
tools. JProbe (certainly not free, but has a trial version) is a commerical
product that does what you seem to be asking for. Try searching for "java
profiling tools" in google. There is a free text-based one that comes with
some versions of the JDK, but it is less than intuitive.

Are there any free implementations of jMeter that (1) work with full Java
applications, and (2) provide good visual feedback of profiled data (method
invocation count, % of execution time spent in each method, etc.). I'm
guessing that this is way off the mark for what jMeter actually does, but I
