It is really easy to use in its current state.

Writing the test cases/test plans should be a snap.

IF you need to extend it then maybe your team should improve
on their Java skills.

Just to get started I use it and then I have improved my Java skills in
about 1mth
to be able to extend jmeter. To bad I have noto improved my typing skills.

You can get Empirix for $10-15K.

It has some decent stuff in it, but I share your view.

My issue is our QA folks aren't terribly strong in Java and I don't want to
have to spend 50% of
my day writing scripts for them.
