I have successfully configured Jmeter 2.1.1 to record traffic from and

I have NOT set the browser to bypass proxy for local addresses.

OK

The problem is this: with a local Webserver on (e.g) port 1080, I cannot
persuade the JMEter proxy to capture traffic on localhost port 1080. If
I set the browser option Proxy to localhost:1080, Jmeter still does not
record.

The browser needs to be set to use the JMeter proxy - e.g. 8080 - not
the local webserver on 1080, surely?

In a way this makes sense - addressing a local website would not involve
the proxy. However it seems an odd limitation - has anybody
successfully done a recording entirely locally please? If so how?
