I've just done a search of the JMeter 2.3.2 code, and there are two
instances of "Test failed!", both of which are in log messages which
include the full stack trace. So I don't understand why you saw this
message without the stack trace.

Are you sure you were using JMeter 2.3.2 and not an earlier version?
