Ok, sorry... I've got some ideas on the future of Jmol in my head that might clarify things: 1. You're doing an excellent job on the refactorization... 2. Jmol should be.... what? Ok, one primal goal for Jmol at this moment seems to be 1., right? Once that is done, Jmol can more on further, right? But what will happen afterwards? What will be the goal for Jmol then? (That was basically my question.) I raise this issue because Jmol as animator, or analysis tool for quantum mechanical calculations seems near enough, but viewing crystals seems rather different... Therefore, I guess, you suggest to put the Crystal menu in Extra, right? But for me, and for Fabian the crystal structure part is of much more interest than to put away in the crystal menu... Hence, my question: how does the patch relate to current features concerning its importance in the menu hierarchy, and in Jmol in general... BTW, you've made a very valid point that the menu should at least be "unactiviated" when the structure load does not contain crystal parameters... I've been thinking about this ever since I wrote/posted my crystal structure patch a few months ago... At that time I decided to copy/adapt Jmol.java to JCryst.java... But I think Jmol should better be modularized... i.e. that is should support plugins (or something like that...) The plugin would be activated if a file contains certain information, and the plugins make the menu items pointing to functionality in that plugin... We would have an animation plugin, a vibration mode analyzer plugin, a crystal plugin... Does that make sense to you? And is this in line with your plans for Jmol? And what are those after refactorization? regards, Egon ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by: OSDN - Tired of that same old cell phone?
