This picture may not be as ugly as the one I painted. Mozilla seems much happier if you just turn off debugscript. It is then happier still if you shut off the MessageCallback. It is pretty clear that there is a severe performance problem when moving from Java->JavaScript, much more so than going from JavaScript->Java.
