But this was done in the days before LiveConnect\ was working ... The JmolAppletControls themselves are quite simple. But the browser has to allo\cate an AppletContext for each one, and that is probably a set of complicated d\ata structures. But, I do not mean to be defending the JmolAppletControl buttons ... I hate the\m. They were done because there was no other solution on Mac OSX. And because they\ were intended to be compatible with the Chime plug-in buttons. So the chime2jm\ol.pl script generates them when it sees chime buttons. But I am not very happy\ with chime2jmol.pl these days ... it hasn't gotten much attention and I am not\ sure whether or not it is practical to expect automated conversion of chime ht\ml pages. Hidden frames + immediate\ buttons add a lot of complexity to a simple page. Since LiveConnect now works on OSX, It seems to me that we should use straight \HTML buttons. I think that is the simplest mechanism and should be the recommen\ded way to create button controls.
