Hi,
Welcome to Jmol :)
I don't think there is a lot of documentation about
the Java code except the Javadoc itself which you can build using ant (it's the
javadoc target of the build.xml file). You also have a short developers guide
that can be found from http://www.jmol.org/docs. For what I have
seen, don't expect to find a full documentation of the source code.
Have you already set up a development environment
for Jmol (java, source code, IDE, ...) ? It's a lot better to have it set up to
try to build Jmol and see how it is done.
If not, my personal suggestion would be to use
Eclipse as an IDE (see the developers guide for a description of how to use
Eclipse with Jmol) if you don't already have a preferred IDE.
It's always require some work to enter a project :(
One way to become more familiar with the code is to contribute small parts and
then move on with bigger contributions.
Feel free to ask questions.
Nicolas
