Correct

I have never heard of sablevm ... so I have no idea.

I do not know if anyone has ever tried to run the Jmol applet using it.

Q: Is there actually a browser plugin that uses this open source JVM?

Note that technically speaking, there is not a problem with the
instruction set of the virtual machine. The instructions of the virtual
machine did not change until java 1.5

The actual problem is with the class libraries.

The only open source class library project that I am aware of is 'Classlib'.

Apparently there are still problems with classlib.

So, it is not clear to me what you are looking for.
