This would happen if an older version (say, 9.0) of the applet were
installed.
I can't remember exactly when that parsing changed, but I had the same
experience
some time ago.

AND
Windows + java 1.4.2_10
I do not get any error messages in the Java console.
I do not know why this is happening to you.
