I agree with Daniel, I would rather see increasing version numbers.

I would prefer to keep the naming scheme you were using since 10.00.00, 
eventually with the removal of the unnecessary leading 0.

I would say :
- 10.1 (or 10.1.0) for the next release
- 10.1.1 for the first 'pre-'release (bugfix)
- 10.1.x for the x 'pre-'release (bugfix and improvments)

What about putting the naming scheme decided in the Release Procedures of the 
Wiki ?
