Q: Which code was the XTALX applet built from?
Prototype -- bob200603.
I will see how difficult it will be for me to revert back to shorts in
order to understand what is going on ... not that going back to shorts is
an option.
We need a test file we can use with a variety of older versions. Maybe
we can track it down to a certain set of commits.
I have several of the old versions -- I suppose they are all at
sourceforge somewhere (as Jar files?)
But since I'm not observing it, I can't help much.
What I do know is that when browsers use a lot of string space, things
can really bog down. I know IE is notorious for this. In my experience
Opera is by far the best for handling this, so if there is any option at
all to try on Opera, we should do it. In XTALX I am definitely dumping
loads of strings, including those JSON strings, to the browser and into
textboxes and such.
So, tests that suggest themselves:
1) Is it the browser?
try same using Jmol application, not a browser, with all browsers closed.
2) When did it start?
how far back before 10.2 can we go before we do NOT see this issue?
3) Does it get worse and worse as multiple copies of the
applet/application are simultaneously running?
(maybe there's a simple test that we can all reproduce by spinning a
large enzyme in three different pages or something like that.)\
