Since I almost never use the applet, that is difficult for me 'check the
applet functionality'.

I made the same *mistake* in an early version of Jmol long ago. Someone
(not Tim) complained that I was not allowing fractions of degrees when
specifying rotations. I said that it was useless. They said that Chime
supported it. I put it in.
