I am certainly in favor of only supporting a finite number of levels.

However, I recommend that the script commands support a floating point
range. 0.0 being transparent and 1.0 being opaque.

I don't feel the need to support integers, but if we did so then we should
use 0-255 ... a direct mapping of the alpha channel.

In both cases, we would map to one of our finite values internally.

That way, down the road we can maintain script compatibility when better
graphics hardware is ubiquitous and someone ports to OpenGL ... say, 10
years from now :-)
