Hi Bob, On delving further into the code, it turns out there are several uses of code post 1.1, mainly related to the BitSet. Even when compilers are set to target 1.1, 1.1 jvms can't cope.
Probably too much bother for you to be worth doing, we will go forward with the Jmol 11 stable version.
