Well, SHOOT! It looks like our shift to Java 1.5 caused quite the increase
in Jar file size. Every class file is about 30% larger, as reflected in the
following differences:

Jmol 12.0 JmolApplet.jar

1.986 Mb

Jmol 12.1 JmolApplet.jar

2.419 Mb


I guess I have to say I'm surprised and disappointed. I know - all these
numbers are large - but I've tried very hard to keep these as low as
possible. It's disappointing to see that just changing to a newer version of
Java - primarily for maintenance purposes, since the upgrade didn't give us
any new capability at all - resulted in such a large increase in file size
across the board.

I think I'm still glad we did that, but still, this is sad to see. Any
ideas?
