I usually commit the Spanish updates directly into SVN, so we can test this first without worrying about merging the Launchpad files. Once it works, that's a second part to address.
For example, the Capture menu entries have already Spanish translations which I added a few days ago. Now I see them in the po file at SVN, so I guess all is going well.
