As I understand it, now using non-signed applet is not recommended.

In the old Java versions, the unsigned applets run without asking. 
Nowadays you get warning or blocking for them, so it is not much 
difference (in inconvenience for the user) to use the signed applet 
which of course asks the user for permission but gives you full 
power.

So you will have to live with the Jmol_S frank. Is that too much of a 
problem?
