In one of my email exchanges with Jan Reichert something came up that we need to be aware of.
The * is a valid atom name character in .pdb files. The PDB spec says that it was/is used because the character encoding of the ' (prime) character was not available on all platforms. However, in RasMol syntax the * is a wild-card character. That means that you cannot do a query that specifically selects atoms with a * in their name. Is this a useful query? Do we need to add this to our list of syntax/parsing problems with the RasMol atom expression language?
