please don't shoot!  :-)  as OP, let me clairfy that I never asked for the
frank to be stripped out completely - I just wanted the ability to turn it on
and off under certain conditions. which, as it turns out, was already
available.  remember, I also voted to keep it on by default.

besides, I only plan to turn it off when I replace it with "You are using
Jmol and doesn't it totally rock!" in huge blinking red text on the same
page.  ;-)
