Just to indicate I very much agree with Eric's view. I posted about the set picking 
function with this purpose in mind i.e. to let inexperienced/occasional Jmol users 
make measurements using just a simple context-specific control and left mouse clicks.

I will also appreciate more sophisticated/consistent built-in mouse jestures. If I 
manage to remember them, it will be good join the 'Jmol Power User' club ;-).
