Jmol v10pre11 crashes as soon as it tries to read in a file; the error message is
Assertion failed: loc2mode(x) == loc2mode(y), file /vobs/JavaGroup/Products/Java/J2SDK/fastvm/srcjava/sys/alpha/ compiler.c, line 3270
This happens both with Java 1.4.2-3 and 1.4.1-beta. The problem seems to be related to HP's Fast Virtual Machine. Starting Jmol with 'java -classic' (thus disabling the Fast VM) solves the problem.
Jmol v9 runs fine with either VM.
