Bill, The top of the hemoglobin file which you sent me is below. It turns out that this is a .html file, not a .pdb file. Now RasMol/Chime will accept it as a .pdb file because you (implicitly or explicitly) tell it that you are loading a file of type .pdb RasMol/Chime then effectively ignores the lines that do not contain recognized record types in the first 6 columns. Jmol, on the other hand, automatically figures out the file type. We think that it is a significant feature that one can load files without knowing the file type ... and without having to have the extension correct. If it is the case that there are still database servers that are returning '.pdb' files that are formatted this way then they should be updated to return the files using the mime type Content-type:text/plain Miguel <!-- send-pdb --> <!-- Jaime Prilusky Jul 1996 --> <BODY BGCOLOR="#FFFFFF"><HTML><TITLE>PDB Full entry for 4HHB</TITLE> <base href="http://www.pdb.bnl.gov"> <PRE>HEADER OXYGEN TRANSPORT 07-MAR-84 4HHB 4HHB 3 COMPND HEMOGLOBIN (DEOXY) SOURCE HUMAN (HOMO SAPIENS) AUTHOR G.FERMI,M.F.PERUTZ [snip] ----- Open Source Molecular Visualization www.jmol.org [EMAIL PROTECTED] ----- ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: IT Product Guide on ITManagersJournal Use IT products in your business?
