hi Bob,

ok I have upgraded to Safari 1.3 and OS 10.3.9 and everything Jmol is now back 
to proper behavior :-)  your above two pages work fine in Safari, including the 
rotate x button.

FWIW, I could not find any problems with my installation of the JVM under 
10.3.8.  java -version was ok, and all local implementations of Jmol ran fine, 
including localhost (apache) sessions.  but anything from a server (even my own 
LAN) bonked in Safari, but only Safari.  and it was completely coincident with 
my OS upgrade to 10.3.8.  weird.
