Thanks, Nicolas,

If you look carefully at the bottom of that documentation page, you will see
an "xml" link. Click on that, and it comes back in XML.

Maybe something can be done with that. (We're not just talking about making a PDF file, right? I mean, that's just printing the HTML document, I would think. Is there a need for that. I'm assuming we are talking here about translation to another language.)

Yes, I was talking about translation to French :) (or other languages if people are interested to do them)

Anyway, the source file is at

http://www.stolaf.edu/people/hansonr/jmol/docs/scripts.xls

What we do for the docbook version is I change the EXCEL and then Egon (I think) uses the XML link to create XML from it.

I reserve the right to change the XLS, though. So how does "translation" in that sort of situation work? How would it be maintained? Are there automatic ways of doing that?

It depends on how the generation is currently done.
Is it working this way ? :
- EXCEL file is edited manually
- XML files are generated automatically from EXCEL file
- HTML pages are generated automatically from XML files

If it's working this way, then it shouldn't be too difficult to help maintaining the translations. Gettext tools could then be used to convert from XML to PO files (and backward)
PO files are dedicated for translating and help maintain the translation.
(Maybe Daniel can be more specific about this part or have better ideas)

If it is possible, I will probably work on this during summer time.

Nicolas
