Rolf, it is not clear to me what your specific interest is ...
There are several different things going on here ...
* I was referring to the image exporting that currently exists in the
Jmol application. This is .jpg and .png support. These images are
(presumably) not of publication quality.
* There is no 'publication quality' image support in the Jmol
application. The PovRay infrastructure is in place, but support is crude.
That needs to be expanded significantly. I believe this component
represents many months of work.
* Personally, I have little/no interest in helping to create 'publication
quality images'
- I work on Jmol for free/fun
- my motivation is to help students learn
introductory chemistry/biochemistry
<inflammatory>
- publications are targeted at professionals, not students
- publications are business entities that have budgets
- there are other software tools that can do a better
job of generating publication-quality images
- the whole purpose of Jmol is to do things in 3D, not 2D
- paper distribution of professional publications is
dead / dying / wrong / inappropriate given the web
- electronic distribution of professional publications
should be interactive ... they should *use* Jmol, not
just take flat pictures from Jmol
</inflammatory>
/* I don't intend to offend anyone with my inflammatory remarks */
