this sounds pretty cool. so you want something like this:
AA1---AA2--AA3-|-AA4--AA5...
where the pipe represents your motif border?
it seems to me that it might be simpler to add a new kind of
annotation object (like a label, but a filled rectangular cube). i.e.,
set blocksize 12
color blocks red
block aa3,aa4
any thoughts?
