Hi folks I just wanted to draw your attention to the recently developed 'Jmol Filter' for the open source virtual learning environment Moodle. The filter is a PHP/Javascript 'wrapper' which enables teachers to easily add Jmol applets to their online Moodle courses - with not much more than a link to an uploaded chemical structure file. Currently, there are a few configuration options, such as the ability to display the applet at different sizes, and the ability to display a 'default' set of controls: Stick, Ball-&-Stick, Spacefill, Spin, Download file, together with a simplified Jmol help page. Of course, more sophisticated options are still available from the Jmol 'right-click' menu. As you may be aware, Moodle is becoming increasing popular across the education sector (from schools to universities), and is recognised as a viable alternative to commercial VLEs such as Blackboard/WebCT. Indeed, the UK Open University has recently adopted Moodle for its courses. We hope that the Moodle Jmol Filter will make the fantastic work of Egon, Miguel and the rest of the Jmol community more accessible, widely recognised and utilised by teachers & students. http://moodle.org - for general info on Moodle http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=36973 - for a (long!) thread on the development of the Jmol Filter http://moodle.yeovil.ac.uk/course/view.php?id=63 - to see the Jmol Filter 'in action' (just [Login as a guest]) http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=40384 - for more Moodle-user reactions to Jmol Regards Geoff Yeovil College Mudford Road Yeovil Somerset BA21 4DR UK
