In my experience caching is only a problem if different versions are
provided from exactly the same URL. I often access our Jmol interface
with different versions either in the same window/tab or in a new
window. But I never had any problem getting the correct applet version
with Firefox on Linux/WinXP and Firefox/MSIE on WinXP. So even from the
same server it should't be a problem, as long as the different versions
have there own subdirectory (reflected also in the URL of the applet).
You can try this with the following URLs, which should come up with
version 10.00.36, 10.2.0 and 10.9.86:

http://www.imb-jena.de/cgi-bin/3d_mapping.pl?CODE=2arc&JMOLVERSION=10.00.36

http://www.imb-jena.de/cgi-bin/3d_mapping.pl?CODE=2arc&JMOLVERSION=10.2.0

http://www.imb-jena.de/cgi-bin/3d_mapping.pl?CODE=2arc&JMOLVERSION=10.9.86

Just to make sure you are not misleaded: important is not the URL of the
page but of the applet that is loaded.

Rolf
