I have use for an absolute zoom. The goal would be to make the width of the
viewport equal to a specified number of Angstroms at the center of the
molecule. I would like to make a group of atoms of known size fit a
specified portion of the viewport, regardless of the size of the molecule
containing those atoms. For example, what if I wish to zoom a clump of
amino acids 20 Angstroms across such that it fits 2/3 of the width of the
viewport? Is there any way to do this?

By "absolute zoom", I do NOT mean a percent zoom value. As I understand it,
the percent is relative to the arbitrary default initial zoom level set to
fit the entire molecule in the viewport. With relative zoom percentages, I
have no idea what the width of the viewport is in Angstroms (at the center
of the molecule). "Absolute" refers to the ratio of Angstroms to the size
of the viewport. To fit 20 Angstroms into 2/3 of the viewport might occur
at 100% for a small molecule, and at 1,000% for a large one.

For example

zoomTo 1 a30

could mean zoom in 1 second to "a" Absolute zoom, "30" meaning that the
viewport is 30 Angstroms across.

When the viewport is rectangular, I don't care whether the specified
Angstroms refer to the horizontal or vertical size, or to the average of
those, provided the mechanism is clearly stated.

Thanks, -Eric
