OK, in Jmol 11.1.18,

write state myfile.spt
and
write state clipboard

both work to produce a script that reproduces the state. Hurrah!

The only parameter I find that is not faithfully reproduced (so far) is background color of the applet. Is this intentional, since it might be specified in the code that creates the applet?
