Are you sure that in your file you have alternate locations A and B?
Angel's answer works for me.

label %n:%A
Those are chains, not alternate locations. Alternate locations are 
selected using

ALA%A
ALA%B

Easier, though, is to use the configuration command:

configuration 0
configuration 1

Then it doesn't matter what the author used for the character for the 
alternate location.
But I realize your question was about labeling, not displaying.
