You may be right about that.  However, I'm pretty sure that the svg  
will not work if the .html extension is used.  At least it didn't  
earlier when I was first experimenting with svg.  The svg wasn't  
working with a .html extension then when I changed to the .xhtml  
extension it worked.  No other changes.

I just tried it again.  As I suspected, the svg does not work.   
Interestingly, Firefox now displays the Jmol applet although it  
doesn't like the CDATA wrapper.  The page still validates although  
with one warning about a conflict between mime type and document type.
