Dear users,
I'd welcome opinions on a proposal for a change in the arrangement of a few
entries in the
pop-up menu (for application and signed applet).
First, I would like to reorganize the popup menu so that load and save/export
options are
collected into a File menu, and I'd rather put it near the bottom so that the
view & style
options are the first (after all, Jmol's main use is as a viewer).
I don't think it is good to change the interface, but the Load and Export
entries are fairly
recent and have increased quite a bit in number, particularly with the
exporters.
It could be something like this:
(Molecule name and info)
Models
Configurations
-
Select
View
Style
Color
-
Surface
Symmetry
-
Zoom
Spin
Vibration
Animation
-

About Jmol
The current Load and Save menus (2nd and 3rd from the top in App and Signed
Applet)
would be removed,
and the (new) File menu would contain:
Open file from PDB
Open file or URL
Load full unit cell
Open script
-
Save copy of file {filename}
Save script with state
Save script with history
-
Export to web page
Export to Gaussian
-
Export GIF image
Export JPG image
Export PNG image
Export POV-Ray image
-
Export VRML 3D model
Export X3D 3D model
Export Maya 3D model
-
Export JVXL Isosurface
A decision is to be made between Load // Open and Save // Export. And it
should be the
same in the pop-up and menubar menus. The ones above are those I prefer.
Items in the app's menubar would later be matched to these.
Thanks for your feedback
It would also make sense IMHO that the molecule name and counts of composing
atoms,
bonds etc. are collected into an expanded "About" menu, rather than being at
the very top:
About
About Jmol
(version, OS, Java version info)
(About) This Molecule
(name)
(atoms)
(bonds)
etc.
and the "Minimize" entry, which is now inside the top subentry, would be better
elsewhere,
maybe inside the File menu, as "Optimize structure".
Reasons:
1. it affects the structure, so it is an advanced option, and certainly not
informative like the
others beside it.
2. Someone assumed that Minimize was related to the window size
