OK, I took a lot of investigating and the realization that java
applets get cached to figure this all out. The problem has nothing to
do with the security update. The update must have masked a switch
from a working cached version of the Jmol applet to the newer
(11.8.5) version of Jmol that doesn't work.

It's 11.8.5. lcaoCartoon is broken in 11.8.5.

When I serve Jmol versions 11.2.12, 11.4.RC8, and 11.6.21 lcaoCartoon
works on my Macs. When I serve 11.8.5 lcaoCartoon doesn't work on my
Macs.

Incidentally, Jmol 11.9.5_dev on this page
http://chemapps.stolaf.edu/jmol/docs/examples-11/lcao.htm
isn't working for me either.

Why is it SO hard to get a client and a server to agree to use the
older version when rolling back Jmol?!
And how can a browser load Jmol 11.6.21 in one window and then open
Jmol 11.8.5 in a new window !
And why does it matter which address I use? When I access the page using
http://wine-and-crackers.local/~cjmasi/chem/organic/hybrids/ch2cl2.html
or
http://192.168.2.46/~cjmasi/chem/organic/hybrids/ch2cl2.html
I get Jmol 11.6.21 (which is what is currently in the server folder)
But when I access the page using
http://127.0.0.1/~cjmasi/chem/organic/hybrids/ch2cl2.html
I get the 11.8.5 which I took out of the server folder (I've issued a
apachectl graceful, then an apachectl restart, and I've restarted my
computer since replacing 11.8.5 with 11.6.21)
All three addresses refer to the same Mac
