I agree with your analysis.
I tried to load 2D MOL files from resolver directly into chemdoodle's sketcher 
and they look exactly as the sketches you can get via their (chemdoodle) own 
webservice.
But, I suppose that their webservice does a precomputation of the results 
because they are transferred to the sketcher a JSON file and not a MOL file.
