On Safari, things get real slow if I have the error console on. When I turn it 
off, JSmol response quickly.

I had a real problem trying to make these two applications work on the same 
page. I kept getting apparent code collisions with the two applications in the 
same page. Consequently, I put Ketcher in its own iframe. I also use absolute 
positioning of all containers. This was probably asking for cross 
browser/platform issues. I guess it could also affect response.

I'll keep working on it.
